ABET Announces the 2009 Fellows

Five new Fellows of ABET have been named for 2009: Richard O. Anderson, Lawrence G. Jones, Arthur L. Price, Kay G. Schulze, and Mary Leigh Wolfe. These individuals will be inducted during the 2009 ABET Annual Awards Banquet in San Antonio, Texas, October 29.

The 2009 winners of ABET’s prestigious Claire L. Felbinger Awards for Diversity are the Bourns College of Engineering at the University of California, Riverside; the College of Engineering at Florida A&M University and Florida State University; and the College of Engineering and Computer Science at California State University, Fullerton.

Michael Milligan. Ph.D., P.E., Named ABET Executive Director

ABET announced today the selection of Michael K. J. Milligan, Ph.D., P.E., as its third Executive Director, effective June 1, 2009. Following a five-month global search that attracted nearly 120 applicants, the ABET Board of Directors chose Dr. Milligan to lead ABET, the accreditor of postsecondary applied science, computing, engineering, and technology programs worldwide.

ABET Board Elects 2009-2010 Leadership at March 28 Meeting in Baltimore

The ABET Board of Directors has selected Phillip E. Borrowman, P.E., S.E., as its 2009-2010 President- Elect at its spring meeting, held in Baltimore on Saturday, March 28. Borrowman will be installed during the 2009 ABET Annual Meeting in San Antonio, TX, in October.

Accredited Programs at HBCUs

Howard University was the first historically black college or university to have ABET-accredited programs. ABET's predecessor, the Engineers' Council for Professional Development, accredited three engineering programs there in 1937.
