Becoming a PEV

A candidate who has been selected for the PEV training program undergoes two training processes:
  1. Pre-Work for Face-to-Face Training. This encompasses the modules within this program. These modules are designed for your independent and convenient learning.

  2. Face-to-Face Training. Face-to-Face Training is an experiential workshop that educates PEV candidates about the site visit by simulating a real visit as closely as possible.

The following sections describe the components of these two programs.

The Pre-Work for Face-to-Face Training
Please review and explore the contents of each information segment. There will be a series of Checks for Understanding that you will need to complete after Module 3: The Role of the Program Evaluator, after Module 4: Assessment Basics, and after Module 6: The PEV Appraisal Process. You will need to be online to complete these Checks for Understanding.
  1. To review the fundamental aspects of the overall ABET Accreditation Process. These materials are contextual, somewhat static in nature, and best learned independently. During site visits, you, as a PEV, are considered the face of ABET and are, therefore, required to know the contextual pieces of information.

  2. To simulate what happens in preparation for a site visit. In this portion, you will complete several items that will be submitted to your Mentor, your ABET Member Society contact, and to ABET Headquarters, much like submission to a site visit Team Chair.

Outputs from Pre-Work
The following materials will be submitted at the completion of the PEV Training Pre-Work:
  • Completed Checks for Understanding
  • Program Evaluator Worksheet
  • Program Evaluator Report

You will learn more about completing these materials in Module 5: Applying the Criteria.

The Face-to-Face Training
The Face-to-Face Training is designed for two purposes:
  1. To immerse you in the real-life situations and activities that occur during a site visit to a university or college. The workshop uses and builds upon the Pre-Work materials that you have created.
  2. To offer opportunities to demonstrate the PEV competencies.
Outputs from Face-to-Face Training
Upon completion of the Face-to-Face Training, you will leave behind the materials you have created during the course:
  • Program Evaluator Report
  • Program Evaluator Worksheet
  • Program Audit Form
  • Exit Statement

You will also be asked to complete an evaluation of the training, your facilitator, and your peers.

Getting Assigned to Your First Site Visit
Upon successful completion of this PEV training program, your ABET Member Society will assign you to the PEV pool. Your Member Society may assign you for a visit in the upcoming cycle, based upon the number of programs being visited. For more information, contact your Member Society.
