The 2013 ABET Symposium has more than 70 concurrent sessions in four educational tracks. "Tracks" are intended to guide participants who wish to concentrate on specific topics during their time at the symposium. All sessions are open to all registrants. [detailed schedule]
Please feel free to "mix and match" the sessions as they meet your needs. If you have come with a team of faculty, this information will help you to divide your efforts and select the sessions that are most appropriate for your program.
The Program Assessment track addresses:
- Developing sustainable assessment and evaluation processes
- Leading the assessment process in your program/college
- Designing and using course-level assessments for program-level evaluation
- Collecting useful data, analyzing, and reporting them for optimal use
- Continuous improvement
The Innovations in Technical Education track addresses:
- Conducting technical education research related to ABET Criterion 3: Student Outcomes
- Teaching and assessing professional skills — communication, ethics, teamwork, life-long learning, consideration of global/economic/societal/cultural/legal/environmental contexts, contemporary issues
- Embedding assessment of ABET student outcomes into curricular design
This year, all sessions within the Preparing for Accreditation and Program Evaluator Development track will be led by ABET volunteer leadership and professional staff.

- On-Site Review Logistics
- Closing the Loop for Continuous Improvement
- What Do Recent Modifications in Criteria 2 and 4 Mean for Program Educational Objectives?
Additionally, all ABET Symposium attendees can participate in the Program Evaluator Development track that includes topics, such as:
- Becoming an ABET Program Evaluator
- Working as Part of an On-Site Review Team
- What Does it Mean to Exercise Good Judgment?
- Writing the Exit Statement
