Accreditation Criteria, Policy and Procedure Changes for the 2012-2013 Review Cycle and Forward

The following accreditation criteria and policy changes were approved by the ABET Board of Directors at their October 29, 2011, meeting.

Accreditation Policy and Procedure Manual (APPM)

Please refer to the 2012-2013 Accreditation Policy and Procedure Manual for complete information.

Section II.F.1.e. – This section explicitly provides for a program to withdraw from accreditation at any time in the process up to the Commissions’ decision meetings in July.

Section II.G.5.a.(4)(f) – This section now allows a team of two (one team chair and one program evaluator) for the comprehensive re-accreditation visit of a single program.

Section II.G.7. – This section has been revised to remove all constraints for programs seeking initial accreditation to request two-year retroactive coverage for graduates.

Section II.L.6. – This section clarifies the reporting responsibilities to the ABET Board of Directors regarding appeals.

Applied Science Criteria

Proposed associate level program criteria for surveying, geomatics, and similarly named programs can be found in the Proposed Criteria Section of the 2012-13 ASAC Criteria.

Computing Criteria

There are no changes proposed for the 2012-13 review cycle.

Engineering Criteria

CSAB has been approved as the seventh Co-Lead Society for Systems Engineering Program Criteria.

Fire Protection Engineering Program Criteria are in effect for the 2012-2013 review cycle.

Revisions to the following Program Criteria will be in effect for the 2012-2013 review cycle.

  • Architectural Engineering
  • Chemical, Biochemical, and Biomolecular Engineering
  • Manufacturing Engineering

Engineering Technology Criteria

A revision to Criterion 5 – Curriculum concerning the appropriate level of mathematics for baccalaureate engineering technology programs is offered on first reading for review and comment. See the Proposed Changes Section of the ETAC Criteria.

Revisions to the following Program Criteria will be in effect for the 2012-13 review cycle.
