ABET Executive Director Milligan Selected for Engineering Education Excellence Award

Baltimore, MD – ABET, the world leader in higher education accreditation for applied science, computing, engineering, and technology programs, announced today that Dr. Michael K. J. Milligan, ABET Executive Director, was presented the Siemens PLM Software Engineering Education Excellence Award during the 2011 AMIE (Advancing Minorities' Interest in Engineering) Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.

The award was presented by Hulas King, Siemens Director, GO PLM & Global Community Relations, to Dr. Milligan for "Outstanding Support of AMIE and ABET for Bridging Gaps in Education and Corporate Diversity."

"ABET is a strong supporter of diversity in technical education programs in higher education, and in the technical professions in industry,” said Dr. Milligan. "I am proud to accept this award from Siemens PLM Software, on behalf of the entire ABET community, and I look forward to supporting continuous quality improvement through diversity in technical education programs worldwide."

Howard University was the first historically black college or university to have ABET-accredited programs. ABET's predecessor, the Engineers' Council for Professional Development, accredited three engineering programs there in 1937.
