ABET program evaluators serve their profession by donating their professional experience, judgment, and time.
Estimated Time Commitment
Initial Candidate Training
The online portion of Program Evaluator Candidate Training typically takes 12 - 20 hours and requires written work and the completion of three end-of-module quizzes, as well as attendance at a one and one-half day Face to Face Training workshop.
Annual Time Commitment
Once initially trained, PEVs typically spend:
- three hours per year participating in web-based preparatory training;
- approximately two days reviewing program materials; and
- another two and one-half days for the on-site visit, plus travel time to and from the institution.
The time required to review materials and conduct campus visits are spread over a period of three to five months, from July through September or November. Training and materials review does not need to be completed during a single session.
In addition, to keep ABET PEVs current on ABET criteria, processes, and procedures, a comprehensive web-based Refresher Training is offered every five years.
Program evaluators will not necessarily receive an assignment every year, as scheduling is based on the demand for accreditation services contributed by each professional society and on the individual's availability.
