New Name, New Format, Expanded Content!

Formerly "Best Assessment Processes Symposium," the 2010 ABET Symposium has been redesigned to meet the multiple needs of many ABET constituents. This event will begin on Thursday, April 15, with three-hour Pre-Symposium Workshops, followed by two days of more than 70 concurrent sessions. Attendees will have an opportunity to take advantage of a diversity of sessions and meet with ABET commission leaders in a roundtable format to learn about the latest in accreditation practice.

Proposal Topics

Proposals were solicited for three different tracks:

  1. Program Assessment Processes
  2. Preparing the Self-Study
  3. Preparing for the Site Visit

(A fourth track, "Program Evaluator Updates," will be offered,
but there was no solicitation for these sessions.)

Proposals for presentations on the following topics were submitted for each track:

    1. Program Assessment Processes

      • Streamlining the assessment process
      • Qualitative and quantitative methods
      • Faculty engagement in accreditation processes
      • Use of industry advisory boards in the accreditation process
      • Portfolio development
      • Use of technology in assessment
      • Collaborations between technical programs and assessment/evaluation professionals

    2. Preparing the Self-Study
      • Organizing for the self-study
      • Leading the self-study process
      • Maximizing resources—multiple programs in the college
      • Telling your story: the use of tables and figures
      • Self-Study "musts" and "cans"
      • Preparing the institutional report
      • Use of technology
      • Writing the interim report

    3. Preparing for the evaluation visit

      • Involving constituents
      • Planning the schedule
      • Timelines and due process
      • Communication: before, during and after
