Workshop Description

Who should attend: Faculty members participating in the development of continuous improvement processes to assure student learning in any academic discipline.

Develop your continuous improvement skills with this one-day workshop:Participants will broaden their understanding of continuous improvement processes, develop measureable learning outcomes and learn new data collection methods they can implement when they return to campus. This workshop is interactive and faculty will work in small groups applying the concepts learned throughout the day. Participants will receive a workshop booklet containing all slides and reference materials.

Faculty will leave the workshop able to . . .

  • Identify key elements of a functional continuous improvement plan.

  • Clarify the similarities and differences between course and program assessment.

  • Put objectives and outcomes to work by developing measurable performance criteria.

  • Develop scoring rubrics to evaluate student learning.

  • Understand the pros and cons of various data collection methods.

  • Utilize planning matrix.

  • Create clear and concise reports on continuous improvement processes and results.

Here is a brief outline of the day:

  • Introduction and review of key terminology

  • Introduction to continuous improvement plan cycle

  • Developing measurable performance criteria

  • Writing scoring rubrics

  • Simplifying curriculum mapping

  • Reviewing and selecting data collection tools

  • Developing efficient processes

  • Reviewing a planning matrix

  • Reporting results

About the Workshop Leader

The leader of this workshop is Gloria Rogers, Ph.D., who has been active in disseminating information on program improvement and institutional effectiveness for 20 years. She has authored or co-authored over 30 publications, made over 80 invited presentations and seminars at national and regional conferences, and given presentations or workshops on over 90 college campuses, 23 of which were outside U.S. borders. She has also served as an external evaluator on 17 NSF-funded projects and currently serves on advisory committees for the National Science Foundation, American Association of Colleges & Universities, and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Rogers is currently the Managing Director, Professional Services, at ABET.

Registrants agree to a $100 fee which will be accessed if they need to change sessions. This fee will be charged at time of re-registration.
