The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) has joined ABET as its newest Associate Member Society. SWE received Board approval in fall 2012 and was then ratified by two-thirds of the current ABET Member Societies to become the organization's newest member. SWE will bring a new perspective to the accreditation process, and ABET will offer them a new avenue for promoting women in engineering. Both organizations are committed to expanding diversity and the value in engineering education and are eager to work together in realizing their mutual aspirations for the community.

Diversity is of crucial importance to any engineering organization, and to highlight that importance Airbus and the Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC) have created the Airbus and GEDC Diversity Award. This prize recognizes individuals who have made notable efforts in adding diversity to the engineering classroom and provides them with $10,000 to continue their work in encouraging students from diverse backgrounds to engage in engineering education. The ultimate goal of this award is to foster greater diversity in the global community of engineers. Deans can nominate anyone working as or with engineering faculty.
