Member Societies

ABET serves the interests of its 34 member societies. Representing more than 1.5 million professionals around the world, these member societies set policy, develop strategy and conduct accreditation activities worldwide on behalf of their professions.

Through ABET membership, the societies:

  • Determine the threshold set of knowledge, skills and abilities needed for successful entry into their respective technical fields by establishing accreditation criteria for their areas of responsibility.
  • Serve as the source of the more than 2,200 dedicated volunteer experts (also known as Program Evaluators) who conduct the hands-on work of accreditation.
  • Benefit from ABET’s growing global presence (with accredited programs now located in 42 countries) and the global engagement for member societies that new visibility offers.
  • Honor the rich heritage of their industries while focusing on improving the quality of education for future members and the advancement of their professions.
  • Provide their respective members with key opportunities for professional development.
  • Ensure that programs meet the quality standards that produce graduates prepared to enter a diverse, global workforce.
  • Have members who, as an aggregate body, are ensuring our world’s technical safety, health and well-being, development and sustainability.
