ABET and the Computing Sciences Accreditation Board (CSAB) joined other education leaders in St. Louis, Missouri, USA for the Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education, the flagship conference organized by the Association for Computing Machinery’s ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE). The event provided an opportunity to connect with educators and prepare future problem solvers for their careers in the field.
“It was a great opportunity for us to connect with computer science professionals and learn more about what’s happening on their campuses,” said Sarah Carter, ABET marketing manager. “It was great to share how we can support their efforts through our Recognition of Credentials service, accreditation and professional programs,” Carter said.
ABET’s Computing Accreditation Commission, which accredits programs in computer science, cybersecurity, information systems and related computing disciplines, plays a key role in advancing quality assurance in computing education worldwide.
Answering Questions About the Future of Computing Education
The theme of this year’s SIGCSE conference was “Building Gateways for the Future” with an expansion discussion preparing students for success in an AI-centric workforce. ABET was represented at the event by Paul Leidig, CSAB president; Andy Phillips, CSAB executive director; Stephanie Harrington, ABET director of constituent relations; and Carter.
As a conference sponsor, ABET held a well-attended session showcasing the future of accreditation and criteria development in areas like artificial intelligence as well as opportunities for programs to have credentials recognized through ABET’s Recognition of Credentials service.
In addition to a session, ABET had a booth at the conference where ABET staff and volunteers spoke with attendees, answering questions about ABET accreditation, new offerings like the Sustainability Microcredential and more. ABET was honored to participate in this annual conference and learn about the cutting-edge research in computer science education and engage in meaningful conversations.
Through these connections, ABET continues to strengthen the computer science education community and ensure that quality assurance standards evolve alongside the field.
