ABET CEO, Dr. Michael K. J. Milligan, CFO and COO, Jessica Silwick, Director of Global Communications and Marketing, Dr. Amanda G. Taylor, and Adjunct Director, Dr. Kantha Reddy, Ph.D., joined global visionaries, in Bengaluru, India for The International Conference on Transformations in Engineering Education (ICTIEE) conference from January 7-10. The flagship program of the Indo Universal Collaboration for Engineering Education (IUCEE) has long served as a platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing among leaders, faculty and students from various institutions. “I gained insight into key trends such as competency-based learning and industry-aligned curricula. I also appreciated the practical examples of how institutions are improving student success. Overall, the conference reinforced the importance of global collaboration and provided ideas and connections I look forward to building upon,” Silwick said.

Teaching In an AI-Driven World

The conference’s goal is to bring together global experts and passionate educators to advance the quality of engineering education. The theme for ICTIEE this year was “Transforming Teaching and Learning Ecosystems in the AI-Driven World.” The forum centered around building interactive learning environments. It also featured over 70 research papers presented by faculty members, all of which will be published in the Journal of Engineering Education Transformations. Keynote sessions focused on integrating AI into classrooms and explored ways it should act as an enabler for educators, not a replacement. “For the past 11 years, we’ve proudly supported the IUCEE Foundation and ICTIEE, and we’ve witnessed tremendous momentum and engagement throughout this effort,” Dr. Milligan said.

Takeaways From the Conference

With AI tools redefining engagement, assessment and personalization in education, we must think about using these modern tools responsibly. For classrooms to evolve, multidisciplinary collaboration is a must. The conference included a panel discussion on leadership in the age of AI and offered students a platform to showcase their innovation, leadership and collaboration as part of the IUCEE Annual Student Forum. “I was honored to take part in this important event. The depth of care was unmistakable, as educators came together to ask the essential question again: ‘I am teaching; are they learning?” Dr. Taylor said.
