We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of ABET Expert Robert J. Herrick on November 5, 2022.
Herrick was a program evaluator for ABET through Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) where he reviewed programs for the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission. He held leadership positions at IEEE including editor-in-chief of the association’s Press Editorial Board. An active advocate for engineering education, Herrick was also a dedicated member of ASEE, where he was honored as a Fellow.
Herrick began his career in industry but shifted to academia in 1989 as a professor at Purdue University. He remained at Purdue until his passing; he was most recently the Robert A. Hoffer Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering Technology. Herrick also served as the department head of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology Department for the university from 2001 to 2010.
