Recognition vs. Issuance of Credentials at ABET

Our Pathways

ABET offers two distinct yet complementary pathways to support quality education and workforce readiness:
  1. Recognition of Credentials
  2. ABET-Issued Credentials and Badges

Recognition of Credentials

Quality Assurance for Today’s Learning Pathways

As alternative learning models—such as micro-credentials, certificates, and bootcamps—expand, the need for credible quality assurance continues to grow.

ABET’s Recognition of Credentials is a fully virtual, expert-reviewed service that verifies the quality of non-degree credentials. Designed specifically for skills-based learning programs, this offering ensures that learners acquire relevant, workforce-ready skills. The process is led by trained Credential Evaluators (CEVs) and is structured, credible, and efficient.

Unlike accreditation, which applies to entire degree programs, Recognition focuses on specific credentials and is designed to respond quickly to evolving educational needs.
